Slow Cooker Beef Stew

A stew is a combination of solid food ingredients that have been cooked in liquid and served in the resultant gravy. Ingredients in a stew can include any combination of vegetables and meat. Stews are typically cooked at a relatively low temperature allowing flavours to mingle.

This is a very easy recipe. Just chuck everything in and you are done. Original recipe is from here but i've made some minor changes.

Beef Stew
serves 5
550g beef, cubed
15g corn flour
pinch of salt to taste

2 Carrots
3 Large potatoes
2 Large onions
2 tablespoon Dried parsley
Sunflower oil, basically any oil
pinch of Ground black pepper
Beef stock cube
Boiling water
Corn flour

Method:

1. Cut beef into small cubes. Cut carrots potatoes and onions into big chunks.

2. In a plastic bag, combine corn flour and salt. Place meat into it and shake to coat.
( this is an easier method compared to coating the meat one by one)
3. Heat oil in a non stick pan, cook beef cubes until evenly browned on the outside.

4. Transfer to slow cooker along with carrots, potatoes, parsley and pepper.
5. In a small bowl, use some remaining water to melt the beef stock cube and add into cooker.
6. Fill cooker with boiling water until it just covers everything.

7. Using the same pan, saute onion until softens. Add into cooker.

8. Cover, and cook on High for 30 minutes. Reduce heat to Low, and cook for 6 hours, or until meat is fork tender.
9. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of corn flour with some water. Stir into stew slowly to obtain the desire thickness of sauce. Cook uncovered for 15 minutes, or until thickened.

Ta-dah!
Yes, the 6hours slow cooking time is frustrating somehow. ( Are you done yet?!? Can i eat now?!?!?) I think we can use pressure cooker instead to reduce the cooking time. But i think i'm in love with slow cooker right now.. XD
